Sea-Air Exchange of Methane in Shallow Inshore Areas of the Baltic Sea

چکیده

We report sea-air fluxes of methane in physically and biologically distinct inshore habitats the Baltic Sea with goal to establish empirical relationships that allow upscaling local site-specific flux measurements. Flux measurements were conducted using floating chambers without bubble shields, by a boundary layer gas transfer model before, during, after an annually occurring algal bloom from June October 2019. Water air temperature, salinity, wind, sediment organic content, content biomass found successfully discriminate different terms flux, both over periods days season. Multivariate statistical analysis was used relative environmental forcing emissions one growth season for each method. Floating carbon identified as most important controlling factors based on chamber period weeks, whereas water temperature wind velocity these time scales. Over season, methods. present first attempt how our observations can be extrapolated determine coastal emission along coastline.

Sensitivity of the air–sea CO2 exchange in the Baltic Sea and Danish inner waters to atmospheric short-term variability

Minimising the uncertainties in estimates of air– sea CO2 exchange is an important step toward increasing the confidence in assessments of the CO2 cycle. Using an atmospheric transport model makes it possible to investigate the direct impact of atmospheric parameters on the air–sea CO2 flux along with its sensitivity to, for example, shortterm temporal variability in wind speed, atmospheric mix...
